Just a quick update: Ryan Zimmerman's agent, Brodie Van Wagenen, was at Space Coast Stadium today to talk with Stan Kasten about a long-term contract for the third baseman. I'm told the discussions aren't to a particularly serious stage yet, but the parties have ramped up talks with the possibility of getting something done by Opening Day.
Zimmerman got a one-year, $3.325 million deal just before his scheduled arbitration hearing two weeks ago. His agent has been talking off-and-on with the Nationals about a long-term deal for much of the third baseman's time in Washington.
We'll be keeping an eye on this in the next few days and weeks. Stay tuned.
