Guzman to have MRI Monday

By Mark Zuckerman on Oct. 3, 2009 into Chatter

Good afternoon from Turner Field, where Game No. 161 is about to get underway for the Nationals. Ross Detwiler looking for career win No. 2. Adam Dunn still looking for home run Nos. 39 and 40.

Before we get to lineups, some pregame news to report...

Cristian Guzman will have an enhanced MRI on his right shoulder Monday in Washington. Guzman has been hampered for a couple weeks now and hasn't been able to play in the field at all. GM Mike Rizzo said doctors believe the shortstop may need to have the shoulder "cleaned out" a bit but sounded confident that no major procedure is necessary and that Guzman's status entering 2010 won't be a question at all.

This is obviously going to be an important offseason for Guzman, who is most likely going to have to agree to shift to second base for the first time in his career as the Nats seek a veteran shortstop or perhaps let Ian Desmond win the full-time job. It's imperative that he go into spring training 100 percent healthy, or else the Nats are going to need to look elsewhere altogether to fill that spot.

OK, today's lineups. First pitch is at 4:10, and remember, the game's being shown today on Fox...
