Maryland receiving votes

The biggest piece of evidence that last night’s Texas-Missouri game was over well before halftime came when Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit started talking about Maryland.

They didn’t have any answers to explain the Terpies, which is good. If two guys who haven’t seen Maryland in person had a better idea of why it isn’t consistent than I do, it would be time to worry.

Herbstreit, it turns out, put Maryland at No. 23 on his AP ballot this week, thanks to a quick search through the fine people at Pollspeak. So too did the Austin American-Statesman’s Kirk Bohls and the Oregonian’s John Hunt. The San Jose Mercury News’ Jon Wilner places Maryland at No. 25.

That accounts for Maryland’s 10 points this week, which places the Terps in a tie for 31st in the poll.

As for those three ranked teams Maryland has handled? California, Clemson and Wake Forest combined for three points in this week’s poll, all going to Cal courtesy of one voter.
