It’s been an ACC teleconference kind of morning, with Roy Williams and Gary Williams both taking turns in the last half-hour.
A quick note on Carolina – there’s no huge update on senior Marcus Ginyard, who could yet redshirt this season because of injury. Either way, he won’t be playing against Maryland tomorrow night at the Dean Dome.
On to Maryland, which meant some reflection on Saturday’s defeat of Miami.
It’s easy to point to the Terps’ defense, which held Jack McClinton to a meaningless layup in the final seven minutes thanks to employing a box-and-one. Maryland used zone for other portions of the second half, but Gary Williamswas quick to look at how the Terps fared at the other end of the court.
“I’m not sure it was the zone,” Williams said. “You have to score when you have a lead. You just can’t play defense. We shot 50 percent in the second half. As much as playing zone, that was a big reason we won.”
Indeed, Maryland ran its offense better in the end-game than it had earlier in the month, and that’s a major cause of the victory.
