Scrimmage on tap Saturday

Issue One: Will the media get to see tomorrow's Marylandscrimmage.

"You guys don't work on Saturdays," coach Ralph Friedgen observed (incorrectly, I might add). "I'll open it up so you have to work."

I wouldn't rather be anywhere else in the world.

In any case, the priority of this session might be shaking out things further down the roster than determining many starters. It will still be mostly Maryland's normal offense going against Maryland's normal defense, which doesn't really do much for the season.

"I want to see if there's anybody we don't know about who can help us," Friedgen said.

That could even extend into special teams. But for the most part, this could be a game-like look at guys like linebacker Ben Pooler, who is coming back from an ACL tear.

Friedgen expects the first two teams to take between 35 and 40 snaps, while the third and fourth teams are likely to land between 25 and 35 snaps.

And as for a guy on the spot? How about D.J. Adams, a true freshman running back who has caught Friedgen's attention this week despite playing at a deep position featuring holdovers Da'Rel Scott, Davin Meggett and Morgan Green.

"Can he be better than the top three we have?" Friedgen said. "From what I saw today, he has a chance."
