Injury tidbits from the scrimmage

It's safe to say the most electrifying offensive moment of Saturday's scrimmage was Caleb Porzel scampering about 40 yards in a long run, shifting from one side of the field to another.

(A big fan of Porzel's was definitely Drew Gloster, who shouted out "That's Good Counsel; that's production" after the long run; both Gloster and Porzel are Good Counsel alums).

Just a little while later, he came down awkwardly after hauling in a pass when linebacker Ben Pooler dragged him down with a horsecollar tackle.

Porzel was slow to get up, but eventually walked around with what coach Ralph Friedgen called a mild MCL sprain. Pooler --- probably a bit zealous after sitting out much of last season and all of the spring with his own knee injury --- went over to Porzel to apologize.

Porzel figures to be out a few days.

* Center Phil Costa (knee) dressed but did not play.

"When he comes to me and says he's not feeling right, I'm listening to what Phil tells me," Friedgen said. "I have a lot of confidence in him and I know what he can do. Let me find out what some of these other guys can do."

Danny Edwards and Bennett Fulper played most of the snaps at center in Costa's place.

* Spotted in the green jersey: Cornerback Anthony Wiseman, who hyperextended a knee in the morning. Senior safety Jamari McCollough, by the way, is back after a mild hamstring ailment earlier in the week.

* Backup punter Ted Townsley hurt his ankle in the morning session, leaving freshman Nick Ferrara as Travis Baltz's top reserve.

Ferrara fared decently, opening up an idea for Friedgen.

"If he ends up being the kickoff guy, that gives is a two-fer on the plane," Friedgen said. "A backup punter and a kickoff guy, that's pretty big."
