On guard

← return to D1SCOURSE

A quick note after leaving the Gossett team house for the day --- there's movement on the offensive line.

Lamar Young was bumped up to starting left guard, with Andrew Gonnella shifted over to right guard.

From what Ralph Friedgen said, the shuffled depth chart looks something like this:

LEFT GUARD

1. Young
2. Maurice Hampton

RIGHT GUARD

1. Gonnella
2. Justin Lewis

What it also accomplishes is placing Maryland's top four linemen --- Young and Gonnella, plus center Phil Costa and left tackle Bruce Campbell --- on the field. That's obviously a worthy goal to meet.

Now it's just a matter of finding lineman No. 5 --- and I'll have more about that later.
