Greetings from Ludwig Field, where I’m trying to work ahead a little bit on some soccer stuff as well as football, making this a two-fer Thursday.

As for football, not a whole lot was decided in tonight’s scrimmage.
Nick Ferrara made field goals of 45, 48 and 48. Mike Barbour followed with a pair of 46-yarders.
Coach Ralph Friedgen said Ferrara made one in warmups from 57 yards and mused that would be quite a weapon.
Indeed it would be.
Anyway, a few other tidbits to pass along …
* Chris Turner (6-for-8, 102 yards, TD) was sharp. So too was Travis Baltz.
* Torrey Smith brought back a kickoff for a touchdown. On the flip side, the Terps had a punt blocked.
* Offensive coordinator James Franklin said he views both Da’Rel Scott and Davin Meggett as No. 1 backs, while Gary Douglas is ahead of Morgan Green for the third spot.
* Interestingly, D.J. Adams was Maryland’s leading rusher, with 11 carries for 59 yards.
* Tight end is still a mishmash. Here’s guessing Tommy Galt starts the opener, but Lansford Watson and Matt Furstenburg are good bets to play plenty.
* Ralph said he expects to take nine receivers to road games.
As for a breakdown by position, it looks like this:
X: Cannon-Dorsey-Lee-Odai
Z: Smith-McCree-Logan
Slot: Tyler-L. Williams-Boykins
Not sure if it’s in order; Friedgen didn’t seem to be especially particular about it. LaQuan Williams, by the way, played some at Z today and could be shifted around as needed.
* Both A.J. Francis and Drew Gloster were nicked up, but Friedgen didn’t seem to think it was serious in either case.
