Sunday odds and ends

Highlights from this afternoon's chat with Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen ...

* Bank on seeing Da'Rel Scott back in action Saturday at Florida State. Friedgen said the junior is "right now a go" and will practice noncontact on Tuesday and with contact on Wednesday.

Scott has missed the last five games with a broken radius bone in his left forearm.

* As for Chris Turner? The senior quarterback seems unlikely to play this week, but Friedgen said "there is a possibility" he could return for the Nov. 28 finale against Boston College.

* Travis Baltz will undergo surgery Thursday to fix a broken finger on his right hand. Baltz will miss the final two games.

* Also done is Kenny Tate, who had a high ankle sprain. Friedgen said that was still better than the initial fears of a broken leg. Antwine Perez will take his place in a number of Maryland's defensive sets.

* Terrell Skinner (who Friedgen praised for having the best game of his career), Jamari McCollough, Eric Franklin and Perez are the Terps' safeties for the next two games.

And who is the next guy beyond them?

"I don't think we have one," Friedgen said.

Later, he came up with Austin Walker and Mike Salvatico.

* Ronnie Tyler was limited to a handful of plays because of an AC sprain. The sophomore didn't practice last week and seemed unlikely to play Thursday, but felt better Friday.

* And in case anyone was wondering, Friedgen still says he'll use Danny O'Brien if the freshman is needed to spell or replace Jamarr Robinson going forward.
