Friedgen mum on future

A very popular topic this week, for good or for ill, will be Ralph Friedgen's future as Maryland's coach.

It's a discussion Friedgen wanted no part of today.

"I don't even want to get into that," Friedgen said. "I want to keep the focus on Boston College right now."

Friedgen is in his ninth season at Maryland, and has two years remaining on his contract for about $4 million. He signed his most recent deal after Maryland went 31-8 in his first three seasons.

In the six years since, the Terps are 35-37 and have played in three bowl games.

For his part, Friedgen continued to express admiration for how well the 2-9 Terps have held up during a trying season that somehow got worse Saturday with a 29-26 loss at Florida State.

"To me, the effort my kids gave yesterday, I couldn't have been prouder of them" Friedgen said. "Not many 2-8 teams would go and play Florida State and really should have won the game. I'm just appreciative and proud of them [for] the way they play so hard. That's not going to change. I'm proud to be their coach and proud to be associated with them."
