Milbourne: "We just have to get wins"

Landon Milbourne and the rest of the Maryland basketball team met Sunday to discuss the many things that didn't go right during the outfit's trip to Hawaii last week.

Maryland missed free throws. It played sporadic defense. It ran partial plays on offense. Bad shots and ugly turnovers were close to the norm. Help didn't come from unexpected places.

So, unsurprisingly, there was a lot for the Terrapins to talk about.

"Our bench production has to pick up, and our senior leadership has to pick up as well," Milbourne said. I think we addressed that yesterday and we'll see what happens. ...

"I think we were a little bit too overconfident. We went over there [inconsistently] as far as how hard we were going to play. You can't do that. You have to come out and play every game as hard as you can. You can't take any team for granted."

The losses to Cincinnati and Wisconsin don't leave Maryland in the greatest of places after six games, though there's obviously time to erase those problems.

Still, Maryland would be wise to reverse course this week in games against Indiana and Villanova --- the final two power-conference teams outside the ACC the Terps will see the rest of the regular season.

"It would have been a crucial week regardless because we've got games," Milbourne said. "Whenever you've got games, it's crucial. Every practice is crucial, every day is crucial. I think it puts a little bit more pressure on us because we've got two losses. We have to pick our play up and see exactly how good we're going to be because we have to make some changes and we have to adjust to the way we've been playing. I think it's a pretty good week for us. We just have to get wins."
