Maryland quarterback Chris Turner chatted with reporters after practice today and quickly was asked to address to the potential for a change under center.
As a reminder, coach Ralph Friedgen said Sunday the Terps would think about using Jamarr Robinson or Danny O’Brien if the season continues to slide away. Tuesday, Friedgen clarified the comments, insisting Turner was still the Terps’ quarterback and that the program was still playing to win.
“I just misunderstood it,” Turner said. “I asked the coaches what they meant by it and it was the same thing they mentioned at the beginning of the season. They’d loved to get Jamarr in and get him some work. It’s a week to week thing. If he plays, he plays. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t. I just cleared it up.”
Turner said he called coaches Sunday night after learning of Friedgen’s comments. Turner met with Friedgen this week, and indicated the mini-furor is a non-issue at this stage.
“It’s over,” Turner said. “After the game, I was a little insecure with myself as you might imagine. I wanted to call and make sure and it was all cleared up.”
