It is a weekly tradition: I toss out a question about a Maryland football player who hasn’t been mentioned seemingly in eons.
This week’s player: Redshirt sophomore tackle Stephen St. John.
Why St. John? Well, coach Ralph Friedgen just got done talking about Nick Klemm, a true freshman tackle who is two injuries away from being forced to play. This despite missing all of camp.
St. John also missed all of camp, thanks to his recurring shoulder injuries. Logically, it would help if he could step in and help save a redshirt if it came to that.
“St. John, I think he had a pretty good week of practice,” Friedgen said. “With St. John, the biggest thing I’m concerned about is I don’t see the strength in his shoulder coming back. I still see him favoring it. We’re going to play him in the JV game [on Monday], but I thought he did some better things on the scout team.”
So that’s the word for now, not much different than it was before. But at least it is something of an update.
