Joe the Plumber for Congress?

By Stephen Dinan on Oct. 17, 2008 into Dinan

Despite being arrears in taxes and potentially in violation of license laws for being a plumber — or maybe because of that — some folks say Joe the Plumber, real name Joe Wurzelbacher, is needed in Congress.

Yes, http://www.joewurzelbacher2010.com/ has already been registered by Trevor Lair, chairman of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans.

"Washington DC is broken and it needs to be fixed, Joe Wurzelbacher has a real-world perspective and the right attitude to clean up the mess on Capitol Hill," Lair said. He wants to recruit Joe to run against Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a leader among progressive House Democrats.

Given Joe's treatment during his first, unwitting foray into politics, here's betting he takes a pass. Besides, if he does manage to buy the plumbing business, he might make more than members of Congress.

I'm thinking it might be time for the Republican party to split. There are true Republican conservatives who have stood on good principles for a long time, then there's this new type, the type that nominates candidates based on a show business "hook", wow factor. Always claiming their colleagues in congress are broken and need fixing by the increasingly ubiquitous Joe's. Well, maybe you do need a plumber.

I don't think a split is in order. And the wow factor is fine, provided that the candidate is a serious choice. I can live with Palin, but she needed either better grooming or better handling this election. For instance, she never should have been turned over to Gibson, or that ditz, Couric, for the first interviews. Chris Wallace on Fox would have been fine. Let's face it, stuttering dull witted Barry is being handled with kid gloves, and he is probably being telegraphed debate and interview questions in advance. Same for Biden: the guy is a whack job without a script. The Republican cause is best served by highly intelligent candidates who have broad knowledge and who are can demolish Demo arguments with the skill of Dick Cheney. I have admired this guy's intelligence since the Bush 41. I won't forget the bloody wrecking job he did on Edwards, during the 2004 Veep debate. That is why the Libs get so lathered up about him. Because he is verbally infallible, totally in control of his arguments. That's the direction Repubs must go in. Not yield to the temptation to put women and blacks hoping to win diversity points. Identity politics is the scourge of our Democracy. Put up candidates with deep knowledge of the constitution and complete dedication to the idea of a minimalist Federal government. And if they happen to be women, blacks, or plumbers, that's fine.

With all the congressional perks, and control of the tax legislation, there is no way Joe the Plumber is going to make more than someone in Congress, not with their control of $1.3 trillion of our taxes and pursuing another $250 billion. I think that is what his basic issue is. I guess any confrontation with Obama is going "unwitting", huh Stephen.

I think this is an example of how the elitist illuminati want us to look at their opposing party. You don't have to have Ivy-Leaguers representing your cause to be correct, but you do need someone who knows about laws, rights, etc... I don't think this is amusing.

This reminds me of that other plant that was put in a presidential press conference and turned out to be a former male prostitute for a gay website. The reason the Republicans are flailing is because it is harder to hide their dissembling in the 21st century Internet era of communication. It is not quite so easy for them to hide under a rock anymore. As communications have become more sophisticated, so have most of the American people. Sure their tactics will work for the uninformed and undereducated, but too bad for them, it takes more that that to win an election. I know what Palin is sayin' right now: SAY IT AINT SO JOE!! By the way, Clinton warmed up leftovers are not going to win you guys the election. You CORRUPTLICANS have beguiled the American people for too long now. Thank goodness for Karma. Obama/Biden '08

Joe the Plumber wants to own his bosses plumbing business someday. Good. But he had better learn about the media and how it works. He needs to take some courses on media politics. McCain made him a "star" overnight; the media went looking for him; found him. He didn't shy away from the cameras and the spotlight. The attention he's getting is intoxicating I'm sure. Now Joe is angry because he's been exposed as the type of guy you don't hold up as a role model. Of course, that's Obama's fault for answering the guy's questions. You betcha! Joe is hooking up with every microphone and camera he sees. He should be angry at McCain and Palin for robo calling his name on every campaign stop. No doubt they will drop him like a hot potato when the election is over. Starry-eyed Joe will be left with his instant memories. The media will desert him, the bright spotlight will dim to a 20 watt bulb. No more calls for national interviews. No more media at his doorstep. No more encouragement to run for office. But with a $40,000 a year income, Joe the Plumber can get back to contemplating owning his bosses' business and earning $25,000 or more a year. If I were him I would ask McCain or Palin for a personal loan. After all, what are friends for if not to help each other? Right? You betcha!

First of all Obama is a Socialist! That is what “spreading the wealth around “ is…no mistake! Just seven short years after the horrible 9-11 attacks on this country people want to elect a president named Barack Hussein Obama? He is a great deceiver and has a hidden agenda. .he is tied to Jeremiah Wright (God damn America), plus many other questionable , anti American people. Obama will not pledge allegiance to our flag. He wants Illegal aliens to have driver’s licenses and welfare funds. He supports killing babies at birth and in the third trimester of pregnancy..killing them ..with saline and suctioning their brains out with a vacuum tube. His supporters will try to deny this but it has been proven. Of course, the liberal media does not want Americans to know this. Is this not enough to make you THINK? Think before you vote..and do not be deceived …Please for the sake of all America.

The focus on Joe the Plumber is not important. Obama's reply, Spread the wealth around', should be the focus.
