Obama's big (carbon) footprint

By Stephen Dinan on Oct. 30, 2008 into Dinan

Both presidential candidates support mandates to force Americans to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, so it's one of the ironies of this campaign that neither Barack Obama nor John McCain specifically pays for carbon offsets.

Now someone has done the calculations for them and found out Obama has the bigger carbon footprint, at 77,894 tons of carbon emitted over the course of the campaign, compared to 58,786 for McCain.

By comparison the EPA says the average two-person household emits 5.5 tons a year.

I have reported in the past that other candidates — Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Edwards, in particular — paid companies to offset their emissions. More than a year ago the McCain campaign promised a study to look at offsets, but has not taken steps. The Obama campaign has a list of steps it's taken to reduce emissions, but does not pay for offsets. The air charter company it uses does pay for offsets for flights.

I am a conservative Christian, voting for Obama. His brilliant campaign is indicative of the way he’d manage our nation. McCain’s campaign is sloppy, erratic, with a disjointed, murky version of Bush economics. Knowing little except war, all McCain can do is savagely attack and libel Obama. McCain has an extremely immoral personal past. Cindy, his wife, confessed to drug addiction and theft of drugs. There’s Palins‘s pregnant, teenage, unmarried daughter,Bristol. If McCain wins, can you imagine the tabloid headlines? Constant jokes about Palin’s lack of knowledge, pictures of her in a bikini as a beauty pageant contestant. Questions about McCain’s adulteries, the convictions of ethics violations against both McCain and Palin. Will Cindy be back on drugs? Will the 18 year old shotgun groom stay with Bristol? What a terrible example for young people.

You, my friend, are a hack! So, BO is a saint I guess? The company he keeps show the opposite (my friend!). Let me start...Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, Rezko, Auchi, Marzook, Quadaffi, Farrakhan, Davis, Meeks, Odinga, Khalid, Acorn, and on, and on. You, my friend, are a one sided, blind person, who has their head stuck in the sand...or some other dark place! Please go back to El Salvador where you belong!
