Quintin Laing recalled (updated)

The Caps haven't gone on the ice yet here at St. Pete Times Forum, but Quintin Laing is here, finally getting his first taste of the NHL this season after becoming a cult hero for this team last season.

UPDATE: Quintin Laing will play tonight -- if he clears waivers in about 20 minutes. Laing's contract called for a one-way deal this season, so to come up he has to go through re-entry waivers.

Bruce Boudreau said a forward has a lower-body injury, but wouldn't say who. Well, Boyd Gordon is only the guy among the forwards not skating, plus he was laboring at the end of the Florida game after getting hit with a shot.

Boudreau also said that there is a "good chance" that Simeon Varlamov will start in net against the Lightning and that Brian Pothier will be back in the lineup.

Keith Aucoin is also still here on an emergency basis because Donald Brashear is still out. Brashear is skating this morning, but Boudreau said he is still "a ways" away from playing.
