The Jonas Brothers -- the cute one, the really cute one and the one with the long sideburns -- hit the White House this morning for a tour and a taping of a public service announcement.
With President Bush out of town, the place was a ghost town, but a mom traipsing through on a private tour with her twin children just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
"Now!?" said Julia Ross, 8, when a small gaggle of reporters milling about in the briefing room told her that the JoBros were coming out any minute. Her brother, Ethan, was far more quotable than any White House spokesman.
"I'm flipped out!" he gushed. "I think they're cool!"
Their mom, Janice, sounded convincing when she said, "We really didn't know."
The Bros were running late, showing up 30 minutes after scheduled. Standing in fromt of the podium, they posed for a few pictures with the lucky Ross twins, then held a gaggle (seriously) on the White House driveway, just off the West Wing. The trio (Nick, Joe and Kevin) held court for five minutes or so, but there were only two reporters on hand (there were plenty of TV cameras).
They talked about the PSA they were shooting with the (Nick has diabetes), but wouldn't say who they were supporting in the presidential race. Kevin turns 21 on Nov. 5 (the day after Election Day), Joe just turned 19 on Friday and Nick is 16. Just as they began their "gaggle," a handler asked that questions be limited to their White House visit, but one reporter asked about the coming election.
"As a band, we are not in a place to endorse any of those who campaign but we do, you know, me and Joe are both of age, of voting age, so we do endorse voting, getting to know the issues, learning about the candidates and learning from -- and learning what you know and make a decision for yourself," Kevin said.
Asked if he'd be voting, he said: "Absolutely. I think it's everyone's, you know, duty as a citizen, as, you know, a citizen of the United States, to vote."
"This year will be both of our first times," Joe added. Kevin said no candidate has approached them about an endorsement, but he said that it would be "an honor." Sen. Barack Obama has said several times that his preteen daughters are big JoBros fans, so perhaps he'll give Kevin a call soon.
