Two wars? Whatever! It's party time!

Former President Bush famously gave up the game of golf -- said he couldn't been seen having fun with American boys dying overseas -- but President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are living it up big time, with the latest party night on Sunday to celebrate the Super Bowl.

The pair, hot off of a late night partying on Saturday, will host exclusive soirees at their homes, at taxpayer expense, of course (and this just after Obama on Friday decried corporate executives's big bonuses while the market is plummeting). Biden is opening his Naval Observatory home to a batch of senators and congressmen -- yes, the entire invite list is men (along with their families, of course). What's more, there is one, and only one, Republican in the batch.  Six senators, John Kerry, Max Baucus, Bill Nelson, Tom Carper, Kent Conrad and Chuck Schumer, will join four congressmen, Steny Hoyer, Robert Brady, Jim Clyburn, John Larson.

Obama has invited two women, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, to join 13 men, among them Sens. Bob Casey, Dick Durbin and Arlen Specter, along with Reps. Elijah Cummings, Charlie Dent, Trent Franks,  Patrick Murphy, Fred Upton, along with others.

At Biden's party, only Brady is from one of the two states represented in the Super Bowl; Obama's got five from the Steeler State, but just two from Arizona, the home state of the Cardinals. But at least Obama's bash is somewhat bipartisan -- four of the 15 guests (26 percent) are Republicans.

Obama partied it up Saturday night, too, hitting the chi-chi Alfalfa Dinner in Washington, a bash for the top 200 politicos inside the Beltway. He gave a speech and made a lot of jokes, among them:

"I am seriously glad to be here tonight at the annual Alfalfa dinner.  I know that many you are aware that this dinner began almost one hundred years ago as a way to celebrate the birthday of General Robert E. Lee.  If he were here with us tonight, the General would be 202 years old.  And very confused."

"Now, this hasn't been reported yet, but it was actually [White House chief of staff] Rahm [Emanuel]'s idea to do the swearing-in ceremony again.  Of course, for Rahm, every day is a swearing-in ceremony. But don't believe what you read.  Rahm Emanuel is a real sweetheart.  No, it's true.  Every week the guy takes a little time away to give back to the community.  Just last week he was at a local school, teaching profanity to poor children."

"But these are the kind of negotiations you have to deal with as president.  In just the first few weeks, I've had to engage in some of the toughest diplomacy of my life.  And that was just to keep my Blackberry.  I finally agreed to limit the number of people who could email me. It's a very exclusive list. How exclusive? Everyone look at the person sitting on your left. Now look at the person sitting on your right.  None of you have my email address."

Ah, life during wartime. Let's party!

Yes - Pres. Obama is bipartisan, a lot more than one can say about the GOP. Former Pres. Bush's stimulus plans got some backing by republicans - now where is the backing for Pres. Obama who is doing some of the same to get the economy going? I believe the block "no" voting will come home to haunt republicans in the next election!

Ward writes: "Former President Bush famously gave up the game of golf -- said he couldn't been seen having fun with American boys dying overseas . . ." Uh huh. Bush stated that he made his decision to quit golfing on the day of the August 19, 2003, bombing of the U.N. Headquarters in Baghdad. Bush: "I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," Bush said. Yet he was seen golfing again in October of that year. Some sacrifice! Oh, my son, a retired Army officer who served three tours in Southwest Asia (the first during Desert Storm) just shook his head and laughed about Bush's great "sacrifice." As did my husband, a vet of two ground combat tours in Vietnam, the war that Bush missed.

Correction: Curl writes: "Former President Bush famously gave up the game of golf -- said he couldn't been seen having fun with American boys dying overseas . . ."

The only sacrifice bush could make that would be anywhwere near meaningful, would be a self sacrifice. The mourning of thousands of mothers will follow him to his grave. His betrayals will be judged by his own god, he has that fate to look forward to after his disgraceful departure from this earth. Golf has more honor, this is another adversary george will never understand or overcome.

Such a golfer Bush, if he had not slowed down a little he could have been right there with Tiger Woods’. Instead, he went off to clear brush on his ranch in Texas. He learned this behavior from his father, who while president spent large periods on vacation. Now our new president tries to clean up the big mess, and still be human in some sense, while clearly immature people like Joe Curl spread inflammatory comments whose only intention is to inflame emotions, and disrupt any chance of healing.

Good Lord. If Bush Jr. REALLY thought of our boys, he would not have started the war in the WRONG country to begin with. Unityclare, you are right. The GOP is voting no on the stimulus and this will come back to haunt them in the next election. The GOP needs to dissolve and come back with a different name, agenda and philosophy. The demagoguery garbage technique they are using now shows they can only talk, influencing emotionally susceptible, ditto head mentality people - who have the comprehension IQ level of people who believe WWE is real. The GOP has yet to understand that there are less and less of those ignorant people every day. If the GOP REALLY wants to regain its lost ground, it need to PRODUCE (not talk) by working with the Dems.
