Wizards summer league (and more)

I was able to come across a list of players that hope to compete for the Wizards during the NBA's Vegas Summer League later this month.

The team will hold a three-day mini-camp staring on July 10 and will select a 12-man roster from the 16 or 17 prospects on hand.

Veterans Andray Blatche, Nick Young, Dominic McGuire, Oleksiy Pecherov, rookie JaVale McGee and 2006 second-round pick Vladimir Veremeenko already have spots on the team.

The rest of the list for now is: Georgetown's Jonathan Wallace, George Mason's Will Thomas, College of Charleston point guard Dontaye Draper, former Indiana standout A.J. Guyton, former UMass and UVa swingman Gary Forbes, Fairleigh Dickenson forward Mike Peeples, former Wake Forest forward Vytas Danelius from Lithuania, Winthrop forward Taj McCullough and Drexler center Frank Elegar.

An additional name or two could also be added to the list, which is expected to be finalized on Monday.

As far as free agency goes, the team is still waiting on Gilbert Arenas, who has basically told the team he is re-signing, but wants to wait until the cap numbers are released next Tuesday before deciding how much of that six-year $127 million offer he'll accept. He checked in with the team from China, where he's doing a promotional tour with Adidas before heading to Barcelona and Berlin to do promotions for the NBA and the Wizards' preseason games over there this fall. He reported that his trip has gotten off to a great start and that his knee rehabilitation -- under the direction of strength coach Andrew Cleary, who traveled with Arenas -- is going well.

I exchanged a few text messages with Roger Mason Jr. just as he was getting on a plane to visit an interested team this afternoon. The Wizards hope to bring Mason back, but he is also entertaining inquiries from seven other teams, including the New Jersey Nets and San Antonio Spurs. Mason implied his agent didn't want him to say what team he was visiting, and when reached a short time later, Mark Bartelstein said the team didn't want word to get out yet that Mason was visiting. So stay tuned ...
