The Wizards this afternoon signed JaVale McGee (18th overall pick of last month's draft) to a two-year deal worth about $1.39 per season. McGee will be part of the team's Vegas summer league squad and will take part in a two-day minicamp at Verizon Center on Friday and Saturday. The team, which also includes fourth-year big man Andray Blatche, second-year guard Nick Young and forwards Dominic McGuire and Oleksiy Pecherov, will then compete in Las Vegas from July 14-20.

No signings for the Wizards today -- the first official day NBA rules permit teams to ink free agents. Having already re-signed Antawn Jamison and with an agreement in place with Gilbert Arenas, the team is just $2 million under the luxury tax figure of $71.15 million for the coming year, according to a team source. So that leaves the Wizards -- who continue to maintain their desire to re-sign Roger Mason Jr. -- with little wiggle room.

From what I'm hearing from insiders, and based on outside reports as well, the team would like to add a legitimate, veteran small forward to back up Caron Butler. If they want to stay right at, or under, the luxury tax, it would seem impossible for them to re-sign Mason as well. But the Wizards could always work out a trade to bring in that sought-after '3' and remain under the luxury tax.

Who's out there? James Posey -- according to the Boston Globe -- has received an inquiry from the Wizards, hard to say how serious it really was, though. Golden State's Matt Barnes is being thrown out there on various blogs. Michael Finley is out there, but it's unlikely the Wizards would be able to afford Posey or Finley, or the restricted free agent small forwards out there.

Again, there's always the trade factor, but Wizards management has said repeatedly that it likes this team and would be perfectly fine if they didn't make any other moves. So, they're monitoring and chatting and watching, but there's no sizzling frenzy going on at Verizon Center right now.
