Netanyahu condemns Tel Aviv attacks

JERUSALEM -- Israeli  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned a gunman who shot and killed at least two people at a gay community center Saturday in Tel Aviv.

"I would like to strongly condemn the shocking murders that were perpetrated last night in Tel Aviv," said today before his weekly cabinet meeting. "I would like to take this opportunity to remind all Israelis that ours is a democratic state.  We are a nation of law.  Ours is a country built on tolerance and we must respect all people as they are."

Netanyahu said he had spoken with Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch and fully supports a police hunt for the killer.

"We will bring him to justice and treat him with the utmost severity of the law," he said. "I would also like to send my condolences to the families of the victims and my wishes for a quick recovery to the injured."
