Palin: I am not a diva

By Jon Ward on Nov. 5, 2008 into POTUS Notes

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday denied rumors that she is a “diva” who made unreasonable demands on the McCain campaign during her time as a vice presidential candidate.

But her claim may not stand up to scrutiny if reports that her shopping spree with campaign money was even worse than the reported $150,000, as is being reported by Newsweek.

Mrs. Palin, speaking to TV reporters in Phoenix, said the many rumors of tension between her and Republican nominee John McCain and members of his staff were “absolutely false.”

“Certainly there is absolutely no diva in me. In fact we laugh about that criticism,” Mrs. Palin said. “If only people could come on out and travel, travel with us and see this diva lifestyle that I supposedly live or would demand, because it’s just false.”

“But again, not going to participate in any of the negativity. Some people may choose to go there, but it would be based on false allegations if that was a criticism, that ever there were demands on my part or my family, or my supporters’ parts, that were unreasonable or that would hurt the campaign.”

But Newsweek is reporting in their special report on the election – prepared in advance on the condition that none of it will appear until after results are in – that “Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported.”

“While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy,” Newsweek will report in the issue that hits newsstands Thursday, according to Politico’s Mike Allen.

“One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family — clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards.”

Newsweek will also report that Mr. McCain “rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign.”

I wrote about Mrs. Palin’s prospects for keeping a national profile in today’s paper.

Senior McCain campaign officials were quoted anonymously in the days before the election saying she was a “diva” who was “going rogue” in an attempt to promote herself at the campaign’s interests. One campaign official was even quoted calling her a “wack job.”

Mrs. Palin said that she was going back to Alaska Wednesday evening and “anxious to get back into a more normal routine with the kids and school, and with the Anchorage office and the Juneau governor’s office also, ready to receive more attention there.”

With regard to the liberal media's reporting on Sarah Palin's supposed shopping sprees, diva attitude, etc.....tell us another one, "Uncle Remus"!

Obama’s Hawaii Trips Cost More Than Palin’s Clothes Barack Obama’s trips to Hawaii on a chartered Boeing 757 each cost more than twice the price of Sarah Palin’s new clothes. Obama paid for his personal trip with campaign funds. The wardrobe for Gov. Palin were to be donated to charities following the election.

who cares how much her clothes cost. The left wing socialist media types FEAR this woman. They know they are going to see her again in the not too distant future and the next time she will be more difficult for them to handle. John McCain would not have done as well as he did had she not been selected as his running mate. I jumped on his bandwagon after her selection for his vp nominee. Had he not done that he would have lost by a larger margin in my opinion. Here's a hint to the Republican Party. What did Bob Dole and John McCain have in common? They were both in their 70's when they ran for the presidency. Have you guys learned anything about 70 olds running for president? If not, pick another one. While everyone is discussing Sarah Palin's clothes, have anyone seen John Edwards? Sarah Palin will be back, clothes and all and she will have an army of supporters when she returns. This lady is destined to win a national election at some point. Be very afraid left wing, be very very afraid.

The only FEAR the media has and/or other stable thinking people have when they consider the concept of Sarah Palin is: who would stupid enough to elect this person into a position of power because she is a hockey mom or has a special needs child? Her credibility on her other credentials unravel quickly as one learns the details - it is astonishing that this person was ever selected to be on a major ticket.

smuthrob... your "crew" just got their collective a$$es handed to them in a nationwide election. Did you notice? You continue to talk as if you had some kind of "legitimacy" but the truth is YOU DO NOT. Your gang selected Sarah Sixpack without vetting her. Remember? She has political ties to a guy (Joe Vogler) that was MURDERED while buying plastic explosives. A guy who accepted MONEY from Iran to go to the U.N. and pitch Alaskan independence. What is wrong with you? You support this lunatic? You still want to keep chatting up Sarah Sixpack? How on earth can anyone keep a straight face talking about a woman who claims to be a "regular" gal, but spends hundreds of thousands on clothing? How can someone be so stupid about their choices in leadership? She didn't know the members of NAFTA! She is great for comic relief. Believe it or not, I am one of the people that strongly believes we need to bring our country *together* and end these years of partisan crap. Bush / Rove won elections by tearing our country apart. It needs to STOP. But, if you and other like you want to keep shouting stupid things like "be afraid left wing" then your political party is going to be dropped into the trash heap of history like a piece of disgusting garbage. You need to start thinking about what you stand for and it isn't that cardboard cutout from Alaska. That is something YOU might want to fear. Believing in her lies makes you look stupid. The liberals are not afraid of the likes of Sarah Sixpack gaining power. Your own party is busy ripping her a new one. Her in an ELECTED national office? That ain't gonna happen. No way, no how. Reality happened Nov 5. Join the country and work towards a better future. Stop with the idiotic name calling or be left behind.

She started in racking up the scandals, ala bush, before anyone had a clue about her. Measuring her wrongs & deceitfulness against other (supposed) wrongs, doesn't make "her" right or any better. I for one not only don't fear her, I hope she does become the face of neo-conservatism. Link her to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield & unfortunately for him, John McCain & we're but another wink away from furthering ourselves from this pit we've been tossed into. Being a Diva & pillaging the taxpayers is a great distraction for her, I'm sure she'd rather not have anyone focus on that divisive hatred she spewed during the campaign & still. They forgot to program the robot for what comes next, also. But, please don't make her explain!
