Just like a distant relative who keeps coming back to visit the family, the Redskins have had another visit from distant relative "injury." The victims from this visit are Devin Thomas, pulled hamstring, and LaRon Landry, strained hamstring. Thomas is expected to be out for as long as 14 days. The guess on Landry is not definite but it is expected that he won't be out for long. 

Thomas said that the injury appears to be a result of a cramp or bad spasm. He said that the injury occurred when he was running a route when the ball was in the air. "My leg locked up on me like a cramp. I couldn't really put any pressure on it, said Thomas. "I feel pretty good though. I am going to continue getting treatment and I will be fine in a few days," he added. 

It was Coach Zorn who told the press that Thomas could be out for 14 days. "We're going to see how it looks in two weeks," he said. "We're going to estimate that he's going to be back within 14 days or so. We don't know how he heals yet because this is his first pull, so we'll see how long until he can work himself back into full speed."

Special teams coach Danny Smith has had the added responsibility of evaluating a new punter, Durant Brooks, winner of the Ray Guy Award as the best punter in college. "He has a strong leg and now we have to make him a good punter," he said. 

Brooks is competing with Derrick Frost, last season's starting punter, and the competition is starting to heat up. According to Smith, the punting competition really got started on Wednesday, July 23. "It was the first time the punters punted with the team and we will do that again tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. During the first (preseason) game is when the competition will truly begin.
