Rogers, McIntosh will play

By David Elfin on Aug. 14, 2008 into Redskins 360

Redskins coach Jim Zorn announced that cornerback Carlos Rogers, whom the team thought might not get on the field until October as he recovered from reconstructive knee surgery last November, will see some action in Saturday's preseason game at the New York Jets. Zorn added that linebacker Rocky McIntosh, who had a somewhat less serious knee operation in December, will also make his 2008 debut against the Jets. Their mutual returns bode well for Rogers and McIntosh to be in the lineup for the Sept. 4 season opener at the New York Giants.

However, the Redskins will be thin at running back on Saturday as starter Clinton Portis, a well-known preseason-hater, will be held out and third-stringer Rock Cartwright will be sidelined with torn rib muscles. That leaves all the carries against the Jets for backup Ladell Betts and 2007 practice squad member Marcus Mason.

Defensive end Jason Taylor, who's battling painful plantar fasciitis in his right foot, will play. Receiver Antwaan Randle El remains a game-time decision with a sore hamstring that kept him out for a second day on Thursday morning.

Safety LaRon Landry remains out with an ailing hamstring. Receivers Malcolm Kelly (knee) and Anthony Mix (ribs), offensive tackles Stephon Heyer (knee) and Todd Wade (ankle), defensive end Erasmus James (knee) and linebacker H.B. Blades (knee) also won't play against the Jets.
