A league source has confirmed the Pro Football Talk report from earlier this hour about the Redskins and Dallas DE Chris Canty. Although Canty has expressed his interest in visiting with the Miami Dolphins, Canty does have a regional tie, having played at the University of Virginia.
This is an interesting one. I think Canty is a better fit -- fiscally and scheme wise -- even though his only NFL experience is in the 4-3.
With money to spend, if you're the Redskins, wouldn't you rather use it on a player to improve your pass rush? I don't know how Albert Haynesworth would do that from the tackle position, especially in the Redskins' scheme.
The Redskins can begin contacting free agents at 12:01 a.m.
