Notes from Ed Block Banquet on Robiskie, Kendall

I was honored at the Ed Block Courage Foundation banquet last night in Baltimore to present Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau with Pro Football Weekly's Assistant Coach of the Year Award, a 50 Years of Service Ed Block award and a congratulatory letter from Roger Goodell.

It was good to see my old pal, Ryan Clark, be honored as the Steelers' winner and good guy Reed Doughty receive the same acclaim as a Redskin.

The surprise for me was seeing another longtime friend, Terry Robiskie.

Terry was the only coach on hand other than LeBeau. He flew up from Atlanta to support the Falcons' winner, receiver Brian Finneran. Robiskie, who coaches Atlanta's receivers, of course used to hold the same position with the Redskins before becoming interim coach for the final three games of 2000. Terry's son, Brian, is a star receiver at Ohio State.

I sat with agent Jonathan Feinsod, whose firm represents Pete Kendall. Feinsod said that although Kendall will be 36 in July he still hopes to land a starting job in the NFL and doesn't plan to return to the Redskins unless those hopes aren't realized.

Kendall, voted the Good Guy Award winner by the Washington media last season, played well and didn't miss a game the past two years. However, Washington signed the younger and bigger Derrick Dockery (his predecessor at left guard from 2003-06), and with Casey Rabach set at center and Randy Thomas at right guard, there's no starting spot available.  But the Redskins would love to have Kendall re-sign to back up all three spots.
