A star is born

While starting quarterback Jason Campbell struggled again for the Washington Redskins in Saturday night's preseason game, completing just one of seven passes for 10 yards against the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers' fearsome starting defense, rookie free agent Daniel looked very good in his first NFL action.

Surprisingly playing ahead of holdover third-stringer Colt Brennan, Daniel completed five of his first six passes for 40 yards, including a 3-yard scoring toss to fellow rookie Marko Mitchell to complete a 14-play, 60-yard drive.

Daniel then scrambled for 22 yards on third-and-11 to keep his second series going, putting the Redskins on the Steelers' 39 as the fourth quarter began. Daniel was sacked for a 12-yard loss by his Missouri teammate Ziggy Hood two plays later and was run out of bounds by Hood again on the next play.

The Redskins had to punt, but Fred Davis forced Joe Burnett to fumble. On the next play, Daniel hit Davis over the middle for the 18-yard touchdown that gave Washington a 17-13 lead.
