Haynesworth among resting

The first day of Redskins training camp 2009 is already better than the first day of Redskins training camp 2008.

Nobody got hurt.

Last year, defensive ends Phillip Daniels and Alex Buzbee were lost for the season on the first day and the Redskins panicked -- trading two draft choices to Miami for Jason Taylor.

Today, all hands except Brian Orakpo were on deck for the morning practice.

This afternoon, defensive linemen Albert Haynesworth (left knee), Phillip Daniels (left knee) and Cornelius Griffin (right shoulder) and receiver Malcolm Kelly  (left knee) all sat out. Running back Dominique Dorsey (cramps) left early.

"All of the other guys [besides Doresey] who did not participate were planned," coach Jim Zorn said. "We’re just trying to keep the wear and tear off of them."

Zorn said he asked LB London Fletcher to sit out but the veteran declined.

"He’s a guy who will tell us how he feels and he’s a warrior type of guy," Zorn said. "He knows when he feels good and when he doesn’t. I don’t want to get him sore and his arch, what he tore last year, is now starting to really [alow him] explode and practice full speed. I think head coaches get a little nervous about guys going down."

Another player who did the two-a-day was right tackle Mike Williams.

"His change of direction is going to come, but there’s a lot to learn," Zorn said. "He’s trying to communicate, he’s trying to work with the guard, he's trying to work with the tight ends, he’s trying to get the snap count. We are just going to bombard these guys with installs so we can get the offense in."

The Redskins are back tomorrow with workouts at 8:30 a.m. (open) and 3 p.m. (closed).
