Randle El disappointed

It was a surprisingly busy hour of news in the Redskins locker room.

* Antwaan Randle El was informed of the Redskins' punt return by committee plan from the media. He wasn't happy about the expected demotion.

"Not at all," he said. "I haven't been productive, haven’t been [as productive as] what I expected."

Santana Moss and DeAngelo Hall are expected to be involved in the punt returns.

* Tight end Chris Cooley said he hopes to play again this year but is still getting around on crutches eight days after surgery to insert three screws for a broken right ankle.

"The tough decision ends up being on our organization in the next couple weeks of keeping a spot for me over that amount of time and taking the risk of whether I’ll be able to play or not," Cooley said. "If my ankle feels good, I’m going to play. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing as far as the team."

* Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth did a rare group interview with several print reporters.

"We have to do something here," he said. "The losses are starting to pile up and if we get a few more, we can count ourselves out of the playoffs."

* Linebacker Robert Henson is looking forward to his regular season debut. He's on the kickoff coverage team.

"It’s been an adjustment [not playing] but if anything it’s helped because I’m seeing the game from a different perspective," Henson said. "You take football for granted until you’re sitting on the sideline."

* H.B. Blades and Byron Westbrook both are out for Sunday's game -- they sustained knee injuries on the same special teams snap. Westbrook said he expects to play against Denver.

*Quarterback Jason Campbell said his injured ankle is coming along. He was hurt early in the Eagles game, which prevented him from scrambling with any effectiveness.

"It’s better," he said. "We're still working on it. For the most part, it’s a lot better than it was a week ago."
