Zorn: Horton out at least four weeks

By John Taylor on Nov. 9, 2009 into Redskins 360

Jim Zorn had an extensive injury update this afternoon at Redskins Park for his weekly Monday press conference.

The worst news for the team: Safety Chris Horton will be out at least four to six weeks with his left big toe injury. He's going to see a specialist. If the doctors decide he needs surgery to repair the ligament, he would miss four to six months.

Other big news -- Clinton Portis will start off the week listed as "doubtful" because of his concussion. Zorn said he'll be getting an impact test tomorrow and he'll be re-evaluated. The back who replaced Portis in Sunday's loss to the Falcons, Ladell Betts, has an ankle sprain, according to Zorn.

That's going to lead the Redskins to look at running backs this week, and you may have heard a pretty high-profile player became available this morning. Stay tuned; Zorn said there have been some early discussions, but only preliminary.

Who'll block for those backs? Well it won't be Mike Williams, who's out for at least two weeks with a ligament tear in his ankle. He won't need surgery, but he'll see the same specialist Chris Cooley is seeing this week.

With Williams out, Stephon Heyer will move back to right tackle, and newcomer Levi Jones, late of Cincinnati, will start at left tackle.

Other injury quick hits:

- Quarterback Jason Campbell, sacked five times yesterday, has a low ankle sprain but Zorn "suspects he'll be fine."

- Cooley hopes to get his walking boot off this week

- H.B. Blades left yesterday's game but should be fine.

More to come from Ryan and David out at the Park.

- John
