Four sitting out

← return to Redskins 360

The Redskins are back at practice following two days off.

Not practicing are running back Clinton Portis (concussion), defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (ankle), tight end Chris Cooley (ankle) and right tackle Mike Williams (ankle).

Williams was the only one of the four watching practice. Cooley said in the locker room today that he goes back to the doctor on Monday and that's when he'll have a better idea if he'll be able to return this year.

Ladell Betts is preparing to be the main guy in Portis' absence. Portis was not made available to reporters today.

"I just have the accept the responsibility," Betts said. "It’s another opportunity for me to go out and show what I can do."

* Punter Hunter Smith won the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award for his touchdown pass against Denver.

One of the people who reached out to him about the play was former teammate Peyton Manning.

"He sent me a text, 'Nice TD throw,' and and I sent him back a text, ‘You need to get your quarterback rating up where mine is,'" Smith joked.

For the record, Manning's QB rating is 104.3 (20 TD, 7 INT) and Smith's is 158.3 (1 TD).
