Analysis: Thomas' snaps were a season high and Davis' playing time was his most since Week 2. ... On a 12-play second-half drive, Portis played only five snaps. ... The Redskins used an empty backfield five times. ... On Portis' TD run (1 yard) in the third quarter, the Redskins went about as jumbo as you can -- 1 RB and 4 TE -- Cooley, Davis, Yoder and Sellers.

Analysis: The Redskins used "sub" packages 18 times -- 3 snaps in 'nickel' (5 DB) and 15 snaps in 'dime' (6 DB). ... Through five games, Haynesworth has played in 70.3 percent of the snaps (222 of 316). ... Hall hasn't left the field in the last four games and has played 314 of 316 snaps. ... Golston played his season high because of Cornelius Griffin's absence. ... Fred Smoot's phasing out continues -- no time on defense. ... Carolina is pretty vanilla in its personnel -- not counting a hurry-up drive at the end of the first half, the Panthers used 3 or more receivers on just 8 of 56 snaps. ... The Redskins again sprinkled in some three-man DL packages and also had Orakpo in a stand-up position on some third downs.

*Brian Billick was dead on regarding the hiring of Sherman Lewis as "offensive consultant" and Future Play Caller Should Z Get Zapped: "Here's the problem I have with bringing in Sherman Lewis, who is an oustanding coach. You have a head coach -- who, by the way, the players love and respect Jim Zorn -- but he's under fire right now. And yeah, you can bring in that extra set of eyes but that tells your players, your organization, 'I've got some serious issues here and I'm not sure my head coach can handle it.' ... I don't know if bringing in Sherm Lewis is the answer the message you want to send to your players."

*On Campbell's first sack, the Redskins went empty backfield and a five-man route. Don't expect to see a lot of those anymore.

*Rogers blitzed from his right cornerback spot with Landry taking over the coverage on Steve Smith. Smith caught a 13-yard pass on a second-and-17 play.

*The Redskins had to defend the 'Wildcat' for the first time this year. DeAngelo Williams took the shot gun snap twice but with minimal results.
