D.C. United on game days

If you're a D.C. United fan, you may notice a few upgrades to your experience at RFK Stadium this year. The team has launched a broad initiative to make fans' time at the old stadium a little bit more enjoyable.

First, United worked with the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission to select a new concession provider, Sodexo, who has been charged with improving the quality of food and service. (The two sides essentially fired Ovations due to poor performance.) While the age and condition of RFK only allows a concessionaire to do so much, officials said there will be some noticeable upgrades, like the addition of Starbucks Coffee, different food options depending on the time of day and even the opponent, and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to process credit card payments at 50 points of sale throughout the stadium.

"We never had that before," sports commission CEO Erik Moses said. "That's a huge deal. We'd been leaving money on the table, and this will also improve the fan experience."

D.C. United also announced Thursday a partnership with TD Bank that will add 4 new ATMs in the stadium. The move came as a direct response to fans who complained there weren't enough places to get cash.

In addition, D.C. United has struck a partnership with GuestAssist to allow fans to more easily communicate concerns about their stadium experience. Using text messaging, fans can issue complaints or other feedback and receive quick response from stadium and team employees.

"Our fans are valued customers, and providing them with a way to communicate with our staff will ensure that we quickly address any issues and keep them satisfied and focused on the game," said Jon Radke, D.C. United's Director of Operations, in a press release.
