Revolutionary Guards Arrested in Iran

According to the Cyrus News Agency, Tuesday morning 16 senior members of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps were arrested. "These commanders have been in contact with members of the Iranian army to join the people's movement," CNA reports. "Three of the commanders are veterans of Iran-Iraq war. They have been moved to an undisclosed location in East Tehran." This report has not been confirmed by other sources. If true, it shows that the regime is losing the loyalty of some members of its control appartus, which is necessary if the opposition has any chance of achieving fundamental change. Mass rallies can easily be broken up and revolutions crushed, as we saw at Tiananmen Square in 1989. But if members of the armed forces, police and especially Revolutionary Guards decided to switch sides, then one can begin speaking of revolution.

The final sentence is the reason a prez of backbone would be training and supplying arms to the dissidents (we have troops very near), and making deals (buying off) military officers and generals. He would make back door deals with other Muslim countries seeking their support and resources to topple the hollow, theocratic based dictatorship. This is the moment in history when real change can manifest. Doesn't he see this is the only chance to stop this apocalyptic nightmare from metastasizing? He probably has Carter giving him advice...

It sounds to me like it might equally well be the beginning of a purge. Which also might explain why TPTB pushed Ahmedinejad forward instead of the stealthier alternative Musavi.

Che, you have no idea what you are talking about. For decades, the majority of Iranians hated our guts because we used the CIA to do exactly that in the 50s. Even now, the opposition want their freedom, but they don't love the USA. The majority of the opposition would turn on us in a second if we tried something like that, and the hardliners would use it against us and against the opposition. Even the Republicans know better than to get in the middle of this. We would royally screw it up if we tried to interfere. Those who care, know we are with them in spirit.
