By Greg Bennett

Legendary comic book store owner Greg Bennett provides a pair of recommendations for comic book lovers every week. Titles are either currently on specialty store shelves or shipping or in the near future. Fans can also click on the covers to appreciate the fine art.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collected Book 1 from Mirage Studios

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collected Book 1, trade paperback, Mirage Studios, $29.95

Wow, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are 25! I feel old.... Luckily for the anniversary, Peter Laird has prepared a paperback that collects all the great early issues of the comic, plus all four "micro-series"--one-shots each featuring a different turtle. Be warned though, these are not the cute pizza-eating turtles from the cartoon--these are the original killer ninja turtles, inspired by Frank Miller and Jack Kirby!

Bone: Rose from Scholastic Books

Bone: Rose, graphic novel, Scholastic Books, $10.99

Jeff Smith's Rose (with beautiful painted art by Charles Vess) is out for the first time from Scholastic Books--filling in some of the back-story from the life of Gran'ma Ben. The bigger news--it sounds like Mr. Smith is going to do four more new Bone books in the semi-near future! Hurray!

Greg Bennett is the Owner/Manager of Big Planet Comics, a chain of pop art specialty stores in the DC Metro area with locations in Georgetown, Bethesda, Vienna, & College Park.
