Rubes Reaction to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Disclaimer: I did not grow up as a G.I. Joe kid. I know very little about the Joe story. And as I’ve said before, I really like the popcorn induced experience of going to the movies and can be talked into going to almost any movie in the theater.

Some of the members of the elite G.I. JOE team

This past weekend, I was bribed with the promise of movie theater treats to see G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Now, I usually hold action movies to a pretty low standard, but I must say, I really liked it! That Baroness is one sassy chick, and the Accelerator Suits that seemed so ridiculous in the trailers were actually pretty darn awesome on-screen. The story is believable enough, the characters are likable enough (or hate worthy enough when we’re talking Cobra), and the action was downright cool. I would watch it again and likely will at least once when it comes out on DVD. All this is despite the chatty teenage double-date going on behind me, the tween girl giggle-fest in front of me, and the dudes to my left saying, “Aw – that was sick!” every time something went bang. If I can like a movie with all that obnoxious noise in the theater, it must be a pretty good flick…
