By Greg Bennett

Legendary comic book store owner Greg Bennett provides a pair of recommendations for comic book lovers every week. Titles are either currently on specialty store shelves or shipping or in the near future. Fans can also click on the covers to appreciate the fine art.

Gotham City Sirens, No. 1 from DC Comics

Gotham City Sirens, No. 1, DC Comics ($2.99)

Paul Dini has long been considered THE writer of Batman bad girls Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and his own cartoon creation, Harley Quinn. So DC gave him his very own monthly title to write about all three of them.

Detective Comics, No. 854 from DC Comics

Detective Comics, No. 854, DC Comics ($3.99)

Greg Rucka is the other go-to guy for strong female characters, so DC has him writing the new Batwoman's adventures in Detective, with beautiful art by J.H.Williams III. Plus he scripts the backup story of the new (female) Question.

P.S. Before I take a lot of heat for plugging two books about strong female characters by male writers, I would like to point out that Gail Simone is DC's go-to gal for strong female characters, but her new Wonder Woman issue is the finale of a story arc. Check out Wonder Woman #34 in a month! Or some of her old Birds of Prey TPs ...

Greg Bennett is the Owner/Manager of Big Planet Comics, a chain of pop art specialty stores in the DC Metro area with locations in Georgetown, Bethesda, Vienna, & College Park.
