Legendary comic book store owner Greg Bennett provides a pair of recommendations for comic book lovers every week. Titles are either currently on specialty store shelves or shipping or in the near future. Fans can also click on the covers to appreciate the fine art.

Air, No. 7 from DC Comics

Air, No. 7, Vertigo/DC Comics ($1.00)

Vertigo's so excited about their new series, Air, that they're putting out the new "jumping-on-point issue" issue for $1.00. It's a pretty strange comic (Neil Gaiman compared it to Thomas Pynchon), but definitely worth a look. And if you get hooked, you can grab the earlier issues in a TP for only $9.99. Pretty sneaky (and cheap).

Transmetropolitan, No. 1: After Watchmen Edition from Vertigo/DC Comics

Transmetropolitan, No. 1: After Watchmen Edition, Vertigo/DC Comics ($1.00)

Another $1.00 Vertigo comic--this one designed to get you to try Warren Ellis' groundbreaking series about a gonzo journalist (a la Hunter S. Thompson) in a cyberpunk near-future--Transmetropolitan. Nasty and funny. You really should try this one.

Greg Bennett is the Owner/Manager of Big Planet Comics, a chain of pop art specialty stores in the DC Metro area with locations in Georgetown, Bethesda, Vienna, & College Park.
