Guard Seth Allen, forward Jake Layman and center Shaquille Cleare signed letters of intent with Maryland on Wednesday.
The three make the first class of signees under coach Mark Turgeon, though the class could grow during the late signing period in the spring.
“We’d like to add a power forward if we can,” Turgeon said. “It has to be the right piece. We’re looking for another guard. We’ll see. We have some guys on our list already, but I’m sure more will pop up.”
Maryland has nine scholarship players this season, including two seniors. Barring any attrition, Turgeon could add up to six scholarship players entering next season.
That, he said Wednesday, was unlikely.
“My guess would be five at the most as we speak today,” Turgeon said. “Things change in recruiting.”
