Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, said Sunday it is “almost a false argument to say we have a spending problem.” She instead called the fiscal crisis “a government deficit problem.”
Asked Monday about her comments, Mr. Carney replied, “Of course, the president believes that we have a spending problem.” He added that the problem is “specifically driven” by health care spending.
“And that’s just a fact,” he said.
