President Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden took service members from each branch of the military out to lunch Tuesday in Washington, prior to a meeting with the soldiers’ top brass later at the White House.

The president and vice president ate lunch with five active-duty service members at Molly Malone’s on Barracks Row in Southeast Washington. The White House said it was “an opportunity to thank these women and men for their service, and to hear directly” from enlisted troops and junior officers before the president and vice president meet with the combatant commanders and military leadership later in the day.

The service members are Coast Guard Petty Officer Katie Cole, Army Sgt. First Class Angel Febus Munoz, Marine Cpl. Jason Davis, Navy Lt. Courtney Williams and Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Cynthia Gamez.
