Democrat Veronica Escobar

Veronica Escobar (b. September 15, 1969, in El Paso, TX) is a Democratic member of the U.S. House representing Texas's 16th Congressional District. She is seeking reelection to her current seat. Escobar was first elected to the House in the general election in 2018. In 2018, Granger defeated Republican Rick Seeberger and Libertarian Ben Mendoza (Escobar – 68.5%; Seeberger – 27.0%; Mendoza – 4.5%). Escobar earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and and a masters degree from New York University. She later taught English at the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College and Communications Director for former Mayor Raymond Caballero. She was first elected as El Paso County Commissioner and then as County Judge.
