Republican Chip Roy

Charles “Chip” Roy (b. August 7, 1972, in Bethesda, MD) is a Republican member of the U.S. House representing Texas's 21st Congressional District. He is seeking reelection to his current seat. Roy was first elected to the House in the general election in 2018. In 2018, Roy defeated Democrat Joseph Kopser and Libertarian Lee Santos (Roy – 50.2%; Kopser – 47.6%; Santos – 2.1%). Roy earned an undergraduate and masters degree from the University of Virginia, as well as a J.D. from the University of Texas. After earning his degrees, he worked as an investment banking analyst for NationsBanc Capital Markets and as a counsel in the Oil & Gas industry. He served in the offices of Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. John Cornyn and senior counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Roy was the First Assistant Attorney General in the Texas State office of the attorney general. He also served as the Vice President of Strategy for the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
