• "Chore Wars: How Households Can Share the Work and Keep the Peace," by James Thornton, Conari Press, 1997. Mr. Thornton advises couples to "refigure their relationship to their house" to help them handle the chores.

• "Chores Without Wars," by Lynn Lott and Riki Intner, Prima Communications, 1997. Writing from the wife's perspective of how to involve her husband in chores, the authors say building teamwork and family spirit are the keys.
