To the surprise of exactly no one, the media's favorite Republican, John McCain, and Al Gore picked up a number of newspaper endorsements prior to Tuesday's key presidential primaries. But some just couldn't help bringing up a politician not on the ballot, President Clinton. Said the New York Times of Mr. Gore, he has a "burning desire to step out of his mentor's shadow and prove that he possesses the self-control and presidential high-mindedness so lacking in Mr. Clinton." Add another page to Mr. Clinton's legacy.
