Consumer World (www.consumerworld.org), started by consumer advocate and attorney Edgar Dworsky, is filled with consumer resources and links to publications and other sites.
Edmunds.com Inc. (www.edmunds.com) is a publisher of new-and used-vehicle guides. Its Web site is chock-full of valuable information on new and used vehicles and the car-buying process. It is a privately held company headquartered in Santa Monica, Calif.
The Federal Consumer Information Center (www.pueblo.gsa.gov) has valuable information on a variety of consumer issues. A 2001 Consumer Action Handbook also is available for free.
FinanCenter.com (www.financenter.com) is an information resource on personal-finance topics. "FinanCenter.com is a profitable, independent, privately held Internet company, established in 1995," according to the site. One of the neat features at this site is a calculator that figures, in actual dollars, the savings achieved by cutting spending on an annual basis, at 10 years and at retirement.
Intellichoice Inc. (www.intellichoice.com) is an automobile information company that produces consumer reports and the Complete Car Cost Guide. It is a subsidiary of Primedia Inc. in Campbell, Calif.
Microsoft's Money Central (https://moneycentral.msn.com) is filled with valuable information on saving money.
Smarter Living (www.smarterliving.com) is an on-line consumer site that publishes last-minute travel deals. The site is privately owned by a Massachusetts family firm and also provides car-rental and hotel searches.
