Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is located at 2145 Key Wallace Drive, Cambridge, Md., 21613. Take U.S. Route 50 to Cambridge, then go south on Route 16, then left onto Route 335 for about five miles. Turn left at the refuge sign on Key Wallace Drive. Go about a mile to the visitors center entrance.


The refuge phone number is 410/228-2692. The visitors center phone number is 410/228-2677. The refuge Web address is https://blackwater.fws.gov.


The refuge is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.


The refuge charges $3 per car and $1 for bicyclists or pedestrians. An assortment of multiuse passes are available for seniors and the disabled.


Bird walks will be held Dec. 3 and 10, each starting at 8 a.m. The refuge is holding a Friends of Blackwater open house Dec. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
