Dinosaur Land Gift Shop and Theme Park is in White Post, Va., halfway between Winchester and Front Royal, about 70 miles west of the District.


Take Interstate 66 west toward Front Royal. Get off at Exit 6 and bear right onto Route 522. Travel about eight miles to Dinosaur Land on the left.


Ample free parking surrounds the park and gift shop.


The entrance fee to the park is $4 for adults and children 11 and older and $3 for children 2 to 10.


The park is open daily, and tours are self-guided. The hours are: March 1 through Memorial Day, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Memorial Day through Labor Day, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Labor Day through Oct. 31, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Jan. 1 through Feb. 28. The park remains closed if the ground is covered with snow or slippery.

No food or drink is allowed in the park, and food is not offered for sale in the gift shop. A convenience store nearby sells snacks and drinks. Visitors can pack a lunch and travel about three miles past the park on Route 277 toward Stephens City to Sherando Park, which has picnic tables and playground equipment. Drive another three miles and reach a number of fast-food places as well as a buffet-style restaurant.
