Most area malls open about 7 a.m. for those who want to take a fitness walk. Many malls have organized, free-walking clubs as well. Here are a few to try:

• Tysons Corner Center (Virginia) The Tysons Trekkers Mall Walking Club meets Monday through Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. and Sundays from 8 to 11 a.m. Participants receive a free T-shirt and special discounts from many mall stores and restaurants. A nurse provides blood-pressure screening every other Saturday. Information: 703/847-7300.

• Mazza Gallerie (the District) The Sibley Senior Association sponsors a mall-walking club that meets on the concourse level of Mazza Gallerie on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Information: 202/364-7602.

• Montgomery Mall (Maryland) Suburban Hospital sponsors a seniors walking group that meets in the Boulevard Cafes on the second level on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The group also provides free blood-pressure screening. Information: 301/896-3939.

• Lakeforest Mall (Maryland) Suburban Hospital sponsors a walking program that meets on Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the information desk on the first floor. Information: 301/896-3939.

• Landover Mall (Maryland) Washington Hospital Center sponsors a club that meets at Landover Mall on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Other activities and speakers about health also are offered. Information: 202/877-6213.

• White Flint Mall (Maryland) Washington Hospital Center sponsors a group that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 9 a.m. Information: 202/877-6213.

• Fair Oaks Mall (Virginia) The walking club Sneakers and Speakers meets on the mall's lower level Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 to 10 a.m. There are health-related speakers the third Wednesday of the month and free blood-pressure screenings on Wednesdays. Information: 703/359-8300.
