Tommy Thompson is pro-choice on schools, not babies

In last Thursday's article "Perry considered as Bush prepares to finish Cabinet," reporters Sean Scully and Ralph Z. Hallow called Wisconsin Gov. Tommy G. Thompson, Mr. Bush's nominee for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, "a pro-choice Catholic." Some readers might mistakenly think that means he is pro-abortion. He is not. Mr. Thompson is pro-choice about schools, but pro-life about babies.
As Cathy Callaghan of Feminists for Life has written, "choose" is a transitive verb. It requires an object. Finish the sentence choose what?"
